Tulkas is the most powerful of the Valar in matters where physical strength is concerned. He runs faster than the wind and therefore he does not have a steed as Orome does, and he uses no weapon other than his hands. He is no use as a counselor, for little does he know of the past of Arda or of what will one day become of it. Tulkas takes delight in battle, but he does not revel in blood and death, and there is no vice in him. His roaring laughter may be heard in the middle of the fiery cauldron of battle.

It was Tulkas who wrestled with Melkor and defeated him, which ended in the Enemy being imprisoned in Valinor in the days before the First Age began.
