Aliases: Elbereth, Gilthoniel, Tintalle, Fanuilos
Rank: Valar, Aratar, Queen of the Valar

Varda is the spouse of Manwe Sulimo. The mightiest of the Valier, her beauty and the cool fairness of her blue eyes is far too great for any Elf or Man to picture her in their thoughts. The Elves worship Varda and have always held her in reverence, for her joy and her power, as well as her greatest creation, is the light of Stars that shine down upon Arda. Starlight was what the Elves first beheld when they awoke upon the shores of Cuivinien, and it was the light of stars that guided them through years of hopelessness and despair. They have composed a great many songs and ballads to honor the Queen of Stars. The most famous of these is the following:

A Elbereth Gilthoniel,
silivren penna míriel
o menel aglar elenath!
Na-chaered palan-díriel
o galadhremmin ennorath,
Fanuilos, le linnathon
nef aear, sí nef aearon!

The eyes of Varda are like blue iceblue wells into eternity, and wisdom is upon her brow. She had known Melkor long before the days of Creation, and rejected him, and he feared her more than any other Vala or Valie. When Varda gazes out of the arched windows of Oiolosse upon Taniquetil, she sees and hears all that is happening across Arda, her realm, and beyond.
