Boromir

Boromir (b. 2978) was the son of Denethor II, Steward of Gondor. From early childhood he valued courage and valiancy above all, which led him to a successful military career in Gondor. Being the favorite son of the Steward, Boromir was trusted with the most responsible tasks of protecting his homeland. In June 3018 he was defending Osgiliath from the hordes of Sauron. The same year he journeyed to Rivendell to seek explanation of a dream of his. The dream was concerned with the return of the true king of Gondor. When Aragorn turned out to be the long-lost heir of Isildur, his heritage became the cornerstone of his arguments with Boromir. Seeking protection for his people, Boromir joined the Fellowship of the Ring. The power of the Ring ensnared him and gradually he forgot about the awesome evil the Ring represented and longed to take it away from Frodo, the Ringbearer. He was obsessed with the idea of having the Ring and bringing it to Gondor, where he thought it would protect his people from Sauron. Eventually Boromir was so blinded by his lust for the Ring that he attacked the Ringbearer. Nevertheless, when the Uruk-hai surrounded the hobbits, Boromir laid down his life to protect them. Before he passed away, he finally saw his folly and swore loyalty to Aragorn. In this, he always remained the true son of Gondor.
