Gimli

Gimli, son of Gloin, was one of the thirteen Dwarves who undertook the famous journey to the Lonely Mountain, in the course of which Bilbo found the One Ring. Gimli was a Dwarf of the Blue Mountains, and he was summoned to Rivendell with his father for the Council of Elrond.. He was chosen by Elrond to be one of the nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring. Gimli led his companions through the mines of Moria, defended Helm’s Deep with Legolas his friend, summoned the Shadow-host with Aragorn and fought the final battle of the Pelennor Fields. In the course of the arcade, Gimli grew friendly with Legolas, and their friendship continued ever after. When the war was over, Gimli became widely renowned for his courage and valor. He was named Elf-friend by the Elves of Lorien – a great, as well as an exceptional, honor for a Dwarf.
Afterwards Gimli traveled back to Aglarond, the Glittering Caves, with craftmasters and stonehewers from Erebor. Legolas accompanied him on this journey. Having visited Fangorn Forest with the Elf, Gimli left Middle-earth on a ship that Legolas built for the two of them – the only Dwarf to have ever traveled to the Beyond.
